FRIDAY JUNE 1st
I need a little longer with the first Euro 2012 notes, so will include them in tomorrow's email.
I am checking some team news for the Irish games tonight and will forward those previews in about an hour.
FRENCH OPEN TENNIS
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA - SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA
I
have a soft spot for Kuznetsova, she was huge for us here in 2009
winning at a big price and that was one of two final appearances and
five quarter final runs here at Roland Garros in the last six years.
Actually, she has only lost at this stage ( third round) in
eight previous visits, it hardly matters what form she is in coming
into the French Open, the bright lights of Paris, a city she loves,
clearly inspire her.
Agnieszka has had a great
year and is up to number 3 in the world, but she is happiest on hard
courts ( despite a Junior title at RG) and we have yet to see the best
of her on clay and, even on her favoured surface she has lost four in a
row to Kuzzy, the Russian has actually won their last five h2h meetings,
which included a three set victory here in 2009.
Kuznetsova
seems in very good spirits and said after her last match that she had
played well " pretty focused" and added that it was a great feeling to
be back here, " I love this tournament, even before winning, I enjoy the
special atmosphere". SK is a great player, her speed and topspin
forehand can make her unplayable here at times, she is inconsistent, but
the only constant in her career
has been that she has always produced the goods at RG.
I
cannot accept her as a 5.70 chance in this match and I don't care if
she loses 6-0 6-0 those odds are wrong, maybe if they pushed her on
court in a wheelchair those odds could be correct, she also gets a +5
game start @ 2.07 with Pinnacle and that is too big for me too.
ANABEL MEDINA GARRIGUES - PETRA MARTIC
Nine
year age difference here, with AMG's 30th birthday hurtling towards her
next month, that is a difficult time for any sportsman, as we have
discussed many times previously and I guess that goes double for a
woman. She had a stellar year on the surface last year, but has
performed below that level in 2012 and has struggled to build any
momentum. Martic took Sam Stosur to 35 games in Madrid and beat Marion
Bartoli in the
last round and impressed a lot of viewers, especially Amelie Mauresmo,
who said that the 21 yo Croatian was improving, had a terrific backhand
slice, good serve ( 7 aces no DF's verses Bartoli) and was prepared to
mix things up and come into the net. She outserved Stosur in Madrid,
which is very hard to do and should get a lot of free points today and
with that endorsement from the knowledgeable Mauresmo ringing in my ears
and the 30's calling Garrigues, I have to take a little on Petra Martic to win @ 2.10 + there is a little higher out there.
Kuznetsova won 6-1 6-2 !! At odds of 5.70 + .... that is to win btw, not in straight sets ! Absolutely amazing odds !
Martic won too also 6-2 6-1 ! Available at 2.20 in a place or two !
Two selections , two winners, combined odds of over 12.0 and the pair only lost six games between them !
I openly offered subscriptions recently and told everyone that June/ July were my best consecutive months in each of the last two years, it only took 14 hours of June to hit the ground running !
