SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd
Five from five correct yesterday in France, four in Ligue 2 and the early bet on St Etienne. That is fantastic of course, but I still went to bed disappointed after Tiger Woods shot a poor second round 73, he is still well in the mix, but needs a good round today.
All my Saturday notes are in this email and you will not hear from me again until tomorrow morning @ 09.00 UK time.
I do have one selection for Brazil today, but the Sunday matches make far more appeal and the MLS fixtures are disappointing, with teams I wanted to back/ oppose facing each other.
EPL : SOUTHAMPTON - ASTON VILLA
I think that Saints have put an awful lot of pressure on themselves for this match, ever since the fixture list came out and they were due to play Arsenal and both Manchester clubs in their first four starts, it was a case of "the league starts with the Villa game", now, coming into the match with zero points, they have kind of forced themselves into a must win position. I heard pre season that the board wanted to replace Nigel Adkins, so maybe they are not too downhearted with their start and his position will be very precarious if the hosts do not win today. Villa have not won on the road since Janauary, but had a nice win over Swansea City last week and really need to start picking up points away from Birmingham, so they will probably see this as important as their hosts.Villa have scored in their last four in all competitions and boss Paul Lambert, who has a good eye for a striker, feels he has unearthed a gem with young Belgian international Christian Benteke, who scored on his debut last week and was averaging almost a goal every two games for Genk. He only played 20 minutes against Swansea, but caused havoc and could have added to his tally, Lambert called him "unplayable" in his post match interview and the club are expecting huge things from him. With Benteke, N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor and Darren Bent all available, Villa suddenly look to have goals in then and with Saints already having conceded 14, at least two in each, they are going to struggle to keep the visitors out and cope with the pressure. I am going to suggest Aston Villa to score two or more, something they have not done very often in 2012, but which they now look better equipped to do, odds are a huge looking 2.75 + with a couple of companies, but 2.50+ is widely available and is acceptable for 1.25 units.
