Thursday August 1st
There is a follow up email today @ 16.00 UK time ,which will almost certainly have three Football League selections for the weekend and some other information.
With regard to today's football, I am going to keep stakes very small and comments about a single match very brief .
Brazil Serie A: Goias-Vasco da Gama
We discussed Vasco ahead of their 3-2 win over Criciuma last weekend ...
Vasco got their first win for new coach Dorival Junior, a shock 3-1 win at Fluminensem with Juninho Pernambucano ( yes, that Juninho) scoring a goal and assist on his (third) debut for the club where he made his name. It was a great start and having played 70 minutes, he might be able to play longer this evening. The coach has already named an unchanged line up and with a tough trip to Goias (unbeaten at home) next week, they will want the points and to give those home supporters something to cheer. Juninho is 38 yo btw, but we have seen a whole host of veterans flourish over the last 12 months in Brazil and can expect more of the same from him.
Juninho scored the opener there direct from a free kick, Rafael Vaz did likewise to give Vasco a 2-0 lead, they were coasting at that time, but two goalkeeping howlers from Diogo Silva let the visitors back in, but Juninho turned provider, again from a dead ball situation for the winner. Vasco look incredible dangerous now from free kicks and Juninho wins plenty of those, team spirit also looks great since his arrival and all goals were celebrated wildly by the entire team.
No big problems for either team, the visiting coach did not make an early decision regarding his line up this time, but I suspect any changes will be minimal, although the option to recall keeper Michel Alves might be too great to resist, if he sticks with Silva, the goalkeeper will probably realise he needs a performance. These two have not played each other in three years, but Vasco are unbeaten in the last seven h2h meetings. The only match of Goias I have watched in full, was the 5-0 opening day defeat to Cruzeiro and I am loathe to judge them just on that, but they did concede three from dead ball situations and with the options that Vasco now have from these, that is hugely encouraging for the visitors. 1 unit Vasco da Gama +0.25 ball 2.26 asian line/Inramarket.
Europa League:
Asian betting limits are very small on Europa League at this stage of the season and make it unattractive from a betting point of view.
Good Luck.
