WHATS HAPPENING !

The Sony Open was won by journeyman golfer, 42 yo Paul Goydos, who shot a final round 67 to win by one stroke, from Luke Donald and Charles Howell III.

His winner's cheque of $936,000, is the most he has earned in any one year since turning professional in 1989, nice to have your best ever year, all tied up, 14 days into 2007.

16 yo Tadd Fujikawa, who was not born when Goydos turned pro, shot a 72 and finished in a tie for 20th place.

We now know the "semi-final" line up in the NFL play-offs.

Master coach Bill Belichick, known for his immaculate dress sense, improved his play-off record to 13-2 and guided his Patriots past Marty Scholtenheimer (5-13 post season) and the Chargers, 24-21.

They will now travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts in the AFC Championship game, the first to be hosted in a domed stadium.

In the NFC title decider, the sentimental favourite New Orleans Saints, will head north to the Windy City and a meeting with Lovey Smith's, Chicago Bears.

During a television break in the Chargers-Patriots game, early this morning, I "flicked" over to the Australian Open tennis coverage and was confused by the score in the Andy Roddick match.

The scoreboard showed 6-6, 15-15 and I thought the ATP had decided to scrap the tie break system and not tell anyone ! Took a while to realise that this WAS the breaker score, the frenchman Joe-Wilfried Tsonga, eventually took the opening set 20-18, with Roddick finally progressing in 4 sets.

No massive shocks so far, Mardy Fish defeat of number 4 seed Ivan Ljubicic, being the biggest.

Back shortly.
