MONDAY ....

Crazy day in the FA Cup yesterday, you know things are upside down when Leeds United beat Tottenham, my beloved Brentford draw with and were 8 minutes away from beating the Champions League holders and neither was the biggest news of the day ! That honour went to Oldham Athletic who knocked Liverpool out of the competition and coming on the back of non league Luton Town's win at PL Norwich City the day before, it was a weekend for the underdog.

The Bees will take on Chelsea in the replay on Sunday February 17, hopefully they can put that on the backburner and concentrate on getting points from the three and more important (IMO) League 1 fixtures in the meantime.

Anyway, my main reason for writing is to once again ask, nay urge you to sign up to the free newsletter service on the clubgowi website .

The whole process will only take you 20 seconds or so and the only information you need to give is a name and email address.

You will then get two emails from us each week, both will contain a lot of news and information and there will probably be 2-3 (maybe more) full match previews too. Like supporting Brentford, you know it makes sense !

Good Luck.

SATURDAY UPDATE ....

I have posted a preview of one of today's afternoon kick offs on the clubgowi website and will probably post another later in the day and/or some other snippets of information taken from today's newsletter.

I have sent subscribers seven full match previews today, with a selection in each , including a (very strong) 1.75 unit selection at odds of 2.70.

Details of the full service are on the subscription page of the website.

Good Luck.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Wow , it's Wednesday !

#1 This will be Swansea's 12th start in the last six weeks, which is even more daunting when you note that in that sequence they will have played Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal (twice), Everton and Chelsea (twice). I do not feel they have the resources for that and it is going to catch them out somewhere down the line, if not tonight, then at some stage soon.

There are eight snippets taken from today's newsletter on the clubgowi website, check them out and while you are there, sign up to receive the free emailed content, details in the post below.

Good Luck.

Friday January 18th

The weather is going to play a big part in things over the next couple of days, very cold tempertaures, snow and wind, especially in the UK and France are going to mean plenty of postponements.

Obviously Ligue 2 is hugely important to us on a Friday, so our biggest immediate concern, the match at Sedan has already been called off and I have decided to pass on the fixtures at Le Havre ( -6 degrees, strong wind and snow), Caen and Le Mans ( sub zero temperatures, wind, snow) , also the game at Tours where there is a mixture of heavy rain and snow forecast . They might play at one or even all of those, but it is going to make conditions unpredictable and a bit of a lottery.

Ligue 2

The weather is forecast to be far better at these two matches.

Arles- Gazelec Ajaccio

This is a real six pointer at the foot of the table, hosts are in 17th place with 21 points, Gazelec are two places lower and have one point less. Both have found a little form recently, the visitors collecting seven points from their last three starts, a sequence that has seen them get back in touch with the clubs above them and they are actually only four points adrift of Auxerre who are in a giddy 11th spot. Arles six match unbeaten run in the league has been far less profitable or headline catching, as it involved five straight draws, sandwiched inbetween was a loss to lower tier opposition in the cup, but to be honest, they did not need the distraction of an extended run in that competition. However, their only loss under coach Pierre Mosca came on his debut, when he had only been in charge a couple of days. He will be disappointed that he has yet to win in front of home supporters, but this is a very good opportunity and much needed with Arles next three starts coming against Angers (5th), Monaco (2nd ) and leaders Nantes. The board have shown real confidence in Mosca and allowed him to bring in Jonathan Tinhan who has played Champions League football with Montpellier this season, Benjamin Psaume from Ligue 1 Troyes and this week Raphaël Cacérès on permanent transfer from Dijon. This is quite eyecatching, Cacérès is  (17-5-0) this season and played a major part in Dijon's promotion winning team of 2010-11 and in Troyes team which finished third last season where he was ( 30-10-2), he is a "serious" Ligue 2 player.  He is not in the squad tonight, the deal was only completed yesterday, but it is a big statement of intent and will lift the club, Tinhan (90 mins) and Psaume (off the bench) , both made their debuts last week and will be more in sync with their team mates today. Big game for Arles and Gazelec's fate is going to be decided on home soil, not on the road. The visitors know they have an issue between the sticks and new signing Raïs M'Bolhi is at the ACN and will not make his debut for a while yet, also missing are central defender Ibrahim Rachidi (14-0-0) and midfielder Mickaël Seymand (11-0-0). Home win for me and I think real value in the odds. 1.75 units Arles -0.25 ball 2.07 asian line/Ibramarket.

Arles-Avignon : Butelle, Yattara - Cantini, Quintin, N'Diaye, Soro, Zarour, Plessis, Rocchi, Rodriguez, Akalé, Ben Saada, Savanier, Psaume, Tinhan, Delclos.

GFC Ajaccio : Maury, Rastello - Davidas, Kehiha, Bocognano, Romey, Landre, Colinet, Dufau, Sinapi, Poggi, Laïfa, Collorédo, Rivière, Saadi, Verdier, Y.Touré.

On the website you can read full details of the subscription service and also how to sign up to the free newsletter service.

IBRAMARKET/ BEST PRICES:

I am not going to keep going on about Ibramarket , but the fact that you can bet through them at TWO companies who both offer pretty much industry leading quotes, is a terrific aid in beating the bookmakers long term. Always getting the best available price at the time you bet, makes a huge difference over the course of a year and a "click" or two here or there adds up big time. As I was typing this part of the notes I looked at three of tonights matches. Best prices from the two companies available through Ibramarket meant that you could pick from the following....

Espanol ( -0.5) - Mallorca 2.02  - 1.93

Schalke ( -0.75)- Hannover 1.877 - 2.08

Leicester City ( -0.75) - Middlesbrough 1.87 - 2.10

Average margins on the three matches were 1.24 %  That leaves no real leeway for other companies to come in under these quotes, ok, maybe the odd game, but 19 times out of 20, the best price will be with one of the two companies that you can bet via Ibramarket and on that one occasion it is not, the price will probably have disappeared by the time you track it down. It takes a lot of stress out of pre-match exchanges when you know that you are almost guaranteed to be betting at absolute top price. In addition, unlike a lot of other betbrokers/ agents Ibramarket charge absolutely no fees, best prices, high limits, no winning accounts closed and free to use ! Read more about Ibramarket on the "our sponsor " page on the clubgowi website .

Istres - Monaco

I have banged on all season about how the Monday- Friday quick turnaround has been tough to overcome, but rules are meant to be broken and with the disappointing 1-1 home draw with Laval being Monaco's only competitive start in 23 days, we can see it as a positive this time, that they play again just four days later. To be honest, I felt they looked a little rusty on Monday, despite having arranged that friendly and too often took the wrong option around the penalty area and could not have conceded at a worse time. Left sided player Tristan Dingome (6-0-1) is back in the squad tonight, the youngster is not considered a key player, but Monaco are unbeaten in the last 15 matches (10-5-0) in which he has played at least an hour, left back Layvin Kurzawa also returns and they look stronger down that flank tonight. Andreas Wolf ( 17-2-0) is out , but with a squad this size and so full of talent, it seems churlish to even mention it !

Istres have gone off the boil with 10 points from their last 10 starts, after collecting 18 from their first ten. This is more a case of finding their true level, they simply do not have the resources to compete for a promotion spot and a mid table finish is a huge success/achievement and is celebrated as such. They have a cup game in midweek against 4th tier opposition, that is a big opportunity to move into the last 16 and a deep run there , together with some much needed revenue , plus avoiding a relegation battle will be their target for the rest of this campaign, regardless of what they might say. They arrive without much admired young striker Nicolas De Preville (16-5-1) who looks on his way out of the club, centre back Eric Chelle (10-0-0) and defensive midfielder Florian Tardieu (14-1-0), he is interesting, when he plays, Istres have kept 8 cleansheets and conceded two goals in the last four starts. Without him, they have conceded 15 in six, kept no clean sheets and allowed at least three goals in four matches. Playmaker Driss Fettouhi (13-3-0) has left the club to play in the UAE. Monaco for me..... 1.75 units Monaco -0.25 ball 2.20 asian line/ Ibramarket. I am also going to suggest 0.5 units Monaco to score over 2.5 goals @ 6.50 + if you find it, there is 7.50 in a place.

Istres : Petric, Véronèse - Chafik, Sainati, Barrillon, Moulin, Bru, Cantareil, Melliti, Massengo, Tarasconi, Ba, Genest, Yahia Chrif, Akrour, Niangbo.

Monaco : Subasic, Sourzac, Caillard - Appiah, Bajrami, Coulibaly, Dingomé, Dirar, Ferreira Carrasco, Germain, Kagelmacher, Kurzawa, Mendy, Ocampos, Adriano, Poulsen, Raggi, Touré, Tzavellas

Regardless of the weather, we have a lot to cover tomorrow and some really nice selections for matches/ events that will definitely be played, there will be two emails, the first at the usual time of 10.00 which will cover the afternoon action and the follow up at 13.00 will include the evening football matches and possibly golf and tennis.

Good Luck.

Sunday Newsletter..........

Below is  a copy of today's newsletter (only slightly censored) , which was sent to subscribers this morning. It might not be the best, or most detailed that they will receive this month, or even this week, but if you can read it and think that you would not be a better punter by getting to see a copy every day, then you are probably either deluded, or already making enough from betting not to need other employment. If you do not fall into either category, then you should seriously consider signing up to the service. Full details are on this page of the website and if you need to ask any questions, please email me on .... gowi8@btinternet.com

Sunday January 13th

The last 36 hours have been a roller coaster of emotions, after a fantastic Friday, it was very tough not to see either Bolton Wanderers or Everton clinch the win, Bologna did save us a little and in the Sony Open, Charles Howell III stayed on course for a top ten finish and hopefully he can get the job done this evening.

The 49ers beat Green Bay 45-31, Colin Kaepernick stole all the headlines, but the return of Justin Smith was very important , San Francisco are now circa 3.25 to win the Super Bowl and a win for one (or two ?) of the outsiders tonight, would see those odds fall further.

There was a really big win for Watford in the Championship, which combined with a home defeat of Hull City, helped both our long term positions on them and league leaders Cardiff City.

Likewise Brentford in League 1, the top three all won, but none of the five below did and a gap, at least to the teams outside the playoff places, is starting to appear, the Bees have a game in hand of the top two, who both have to come to Griffin Park, leaders Tranmere Rovers visit this next weekend. Three or four oddsmakers have made Brentford favourites for L1 this morning.

Considering how few outright/ long term bets we have had, we have truly incredible positions on SF( 15.0 ... now 3.25), Watford ( 15.0 promotion .... now 5.0), Cardiff City (13.0 now 1.70), Manchester United (3.50 ... now 1.33)  and Brentford up to (34.0/ 9.25.... now 6.0 /2.25), if you have backed even two or three of those, you have some really exciting weeks ahead and I know that a couple of you are on all of them. I think come the end of the season, we will see yesterday as a very key day for us.

Today ......

PGA Tour.... Sony Open

I will hope that CH3 has another solid round and clinches a top ten finish, the only three players in front of him are Russell Henley -17, Scott Langley -17 and Tim Clark -14. Not going to waste too much time on this, but long term readers will know that we came ultra close with Clark towards the end of last season @ 25-1 and this is a course which sets up perfectly for him. I cannot find (wrong folder ?) those old notes on the South African this morning, which is very annoying, but basically after a long time as a nearly man, he got a breakthrough big win and then shortly afterwards got a serious elbow injury, once recovered after missing a year, he went close to following up a couple of times in the second half of last season and he will win in 2013, quite possibly today. He seemed very relaxed in interview on Friday after his second round ....

Q.  How nice to be bogey free for 2013.

TIM CLARK:
Hopefully we can keep that going.  Yeah, it's nice.  Again, I've always enjoyed playing this golf course.  It really suits my eye, and you know, if you're playing good, you can manage to do that.  But it's certainly not easy.

Q.  How much patience was required in this round for you to go out and par the first eight holes?

TIM CLARK:
Yeah, it was‑‑ you know, there's just not that many real birdie chances.  I mean, you've got to hit in the fairway, and it was fine.  I knew I'd get some chances coming in with some par‑5s.  But any time you're making pars out there, you're not losing too much ground.

Q.  We talked about your injury status and last year kind of a trial situation.  Are you 100 percent confident in all the body parts now?

TIM CLARK:
Yes, I think so.  Obviously I've still got to take care of myself and look after it, but at least coming out to the golf course, I feel like I'm pretty much 100 percent.

Q.  You're going to get to sleep in on Saturday, maybe get in some beach time.

TIM CLARK:
Yeah, I'll be going to the beach right now.

Q.  Just talk a little bit about your comfort zone on this golf course.

TIM CLARK:
Yeah, it's strange.  I think when I come here it reminds me a lot of Durban, South Africa, near where I grew up.  The weather is the same, the grasses are the same, and it's not an overly long golf course, and it plays firm.  Yeah, if you're driving it good, for a guy like me, I'm going to get some run out there and have shorter irons in.  It really is just a course that suits me.

I think he will go close this evening, he has three strokes to make up on the pair ahead of him, but it would be easy for them to focus too much on what the other is doing and not on the rest of the field. 0.75 units Tim Clark to win 5.0 + there is some 6.0 around and up to 5.9, but just for peanuts on the exchanges.

The two televised Premier League games are very attractive fixtures and fun to watch, but I cannot find a betting angle.

La Liga: Real Sociedad- Deportivo

We sided with the visitors last week and they posted a much needed 1-0 home win over highflying Malaga, ahead of which I wrote....
Massive game for Deportivo, bottom of the table three points from safety with three of their next four, including the next two away from their beautifully situated home stadium. New home coach Domingos José Paciência will be looking to impress right from the start and will have the home troops well and truly fired up for this.

On the pitch it is hard to know how things could have gone any better for the visitors in 2012 and they ended the year with a 3-2 defeat of Real Madrid, but their well documented off the field problems seem sure to catch up with them eventually and in the meantime, it is true that domestically they have struggled a little on the road, where they play on the counter and show little of the offensive swagger we see at the La Rosaleda stadium. They sit back and try to hit teams on the break, a tactic which has worked wonderfully well in the Champions League, but less so in La Liga where their eight away games have only produced eight goals and they have ridden their luck in posting three wins.

No real problems for either side, Malaga have several fringe and long term injuries, of which biggest name is defensive midfielder Jeremy Toulalan (7-0-0), he has not featured much this season, but it is worth noting that he played in two of the road wins and also in noteworthy away points in Milan and Zenit and they look more solid when he is giving the backline protection. I do not think the visitors will have much to feed off today, we will not see Depor being too gung ho, that is not Paciência's style at all and he has been preaching two things to his players all week, "concentration and hard work". I have to take something on what is sure to be a fired up host and
very nice odds with the draw no bet option. That was a nice win and very solid performance, the new coach looks to have got them sorted out defensively in double quick time. Hosts have problems and are missing both central defenders in Mikel González (18-2-0) and Iñigo Martínez (16-1-0), right back Daniel Estrada (10-0-0), back up centre back Liassine Cadamuro is at the ACN and the hosts look very vunerable at the back. Keeper Claudio Bravo has also been nursing a knock all week. 1.5 units Deportivo +0.5 ball 2.04 asian line/ Ibramarket.

Sociedad : Bravo, Zubikarai,Carlos Martínez, Ansotegi, De la Bella, José Ángel, Pardo, Illarra, Ros, Elustondo, Markel, Zurutuza, Xabi Prieto, Ifrán, Vela, Agirretxe, Chory Castro, Griezmann.
Ligue 1 : Nice-Valenciennes

Nice: Delle, Hassen - Civelli, Genevois, Gomis, Kolodziejczak, Palun, Pejcinovic - Abriel, Anin, Diaz, Digard, Eysseric, Meriem, Pied - Bauthéac, Bosetti, Cvitanich, Maupay

Valenciennes: Leca, Penneteau - Angoua, Bong, Ducourtioux, Isimat-Mirin, Lala, Mater, Nery - Da Silva, Dossevi, Gomis, Saez, Sankharé, Sanchez - Aboubakar, Le Tallec, Nguette

NFL

I am leaving the two games and will be cheering on the "upsets" to aid the Niners .
Good Luck.

Edit: I don't give up easily and found some of those Tim Clark notes ...

Written August 19th.... We spoke about Tim Clark ahead of the final round at the Travelers Championship in June .....Tim Clark has one win in the US and it is a biggy ( the Players Championship) but is something of a nearly man with nine runner up spots and has not yet built on that breakthrough win, which is now more than two years ago, but he missed most of 2011 through elbow surgery, so perhaps it will still happen, he and Kuchar are -7 for the closing six holes and look the most likely to put in a big run today.

He was off the pace going into that round, but we took a little at 25-1,the South African shot a 67 and came close, finishing in fourth place ( one hole cost him dear), he has since played four events and after returning from the rigors of the Open at Lytham, has finished 15th in the Canadian Open and 11th at the PGA Championship, so clearly he is near the top of his game. He has played wonderfully tee to green this week and is ranked number one for greens in regulation, but the putter has let him down and two short putts missed on the back nine, probably cost him the overnight lead, He is due to sink a few and didn't seem to be overly worried about this in his post round interview.....

Q.  I'm going to count myself very honored getting to watch that ball striking display today.
TIM CLARK: Yeah, I felt like I was in control of my ball probably better than the first two days and just wasn't able to make the putts I needed but, you know, it's nice to hit it like that today and obviously that's going to do me good tomorrow.
Q. You must be feeling good going into tomorrow with such control of the ball. The putter, is that an issue or just leave yourself in spots that were hard to make from?
TIM CLARK: No. I just -- I left a couple above the hole which that's going to happen out here. The first two days I was making those putts. Nothing to worry about. Just got to come out tomorrow and really be confident that I'm going to make them.

Saturday ...............

I am working incredibly hard at present, remember, this is a hard way to make an easy living ! So much happening at the moment, with the all the golf, football, tennis we can handle, to say nothing of the NFL playoffs and the African Cup of Nations which is just around the corner.

There are several snippets of useful information on the clubgowi twitter page, an article on the website and I will post a match preview on there later this afternoon.

GOWI links and results 2006-2012 ............

Gambling and Other Wholesome Interests (GOWI)

2006 STAKES 991.5 RETURNS 1,154.806 ROI 116.46 %
2007 STAKES 1,187.5 RETURNS 1,331.677 ROI 112.14 %

2012 STAKES 260.75 RETURNS  304.885 ROI 116.93 %

TOTALS: STAKES 3,858.13 RETURNS 4,529.083 ROI 117.39 %

These are my updated stats for the last seven years. These are for "free to view" content only.
Free to view means for previews that appeared on the Gambling and Other Wholesome Interests blog and also, in the latter half of 2012 on the GOWI Facebook page.

These are staggering returns over such an extented period, well over 3,000 bets and almost all on asian handicap markets.

Through the first couple of years I posted almost all of my selections on the blog, now only about 10% of my output is free to read, everything else is only available to read on the daily email service.

I have had a roller coast ride this year on the email service, we were running at a ROI of 122% + at the end of the summer, which was totally unsustainable given the volume of selections, for the 37 weeks ending December 16th this was down to a ROI of 113.54% from 875+ previewed events/matches, 774 red type selections, with stakes of 970.25 units, returns 1101.75 and profit of 131.5 points. Those are pretty good figures for 9 months and circa 800 selections, but I suspect the next couple of months could be even better as variance says the roller coaster is likely to hit the upward curve again.

SUNDAY ROUND UP ....

I posted a preview on the website www.clubgowi yesterday, which won at nice odds, actually La Liga got me out of trouble on the day, with two winners, both at rewarding odds. I think I have found another today and made that, along with an NFL game, my strongest plays of the day. Although I have previewed five events in total.

I think that there will be a post on the website later this afternoon, so please check that out.

Good Luck.

SATURDAY ...........

Lots of you signed up to the free email newsletter service on the new website www.clubgowi.com this week and all those that did, will have received a copy of today's newsletter which ran to some 4,000 words ( !). It included previews of three FA Cup ties, two La Liga matches and a NFL Wildcard game, there were also some updated Football League stats, which highlighted key players and a couple of teams to keep an eye on in 2013 and another to be wary of +++. Plenty there to keep you busy !

It seems a little pointless to post anything on the blog today, as all of you interested will surely have signed up and read all my news already !

However, just in case someone has missed out, I suspect John will be putting some free content on the social media pages later today and there will be something on the website this afternoon.

Good Luck.

There is plenty to read on the website, both about our sponsor Ibramarket and also a full preview of the Race to Dubai, along with a 10-1 selection for any golf fans out there, or anyone looking for a good value bet which will give you plenty of interest through 2013.

I will probably post one, maybe even two previews on here over the weekend, but it seems pointless checking back here to read one, when by taking 30 seconds to write your name and email address, you can get all 5-6 plus all the other information, delivered directly to your inbox.

If you currently use the Feedburner service, regularly read the blog, follow us on Facebook or Twitter, then you should definitely sign up as soon as possible, as it will give you access to far more GOWI products and content.

NEW WEBSITE AND SPONSOR ....

The brand new website is now live and you can view it at www.clubgowi.com

This is very much Phase 1, there will be a lot of additional features on there in the future.

There is a full preview to read there offering a long term selection available to bet at big odds.
You will also notice that we have a sponsor, Ibramarket.com , we may as well use the website, so you can read all about them on the "our sponsor" tab.

All the basic information is there, if you have any question(s) to ask about Ibramarket, I would be happy to try and answer them and if I cannot, direct you to someone who can .

I have used them for several years and have known the owners for much longer.

I know from emails you have sent me, that several of you already bet with them, or previously used them under their former trading name of Sportmarket/ 5pmarket.

Should you decide to give them a try, or to reactivate an "old" account there, please mention GOWI when doing so, as that will have a positive benefit for both of us.

These are very exciting times at clubgowi and the new website and sponsorship is only just the begining. I would like to offer you all the chance to sign up as a member, which means that you will not only get to hear about, but also to try out all our new services first and ahead of the pack, this is entirely free and a very simple process.

All you have to do is complete the sign-up form, on the right hand column of the website, which requires just your name and email address, it should take less than one minute.

As a member you will receive regular free emails, there will be one later this week which will include 5-6 full match previews and a statistical look at the weekend fixtures, which you will not want to miss.

You will always be kept up to date with everything we are doing at clubgowi and there will also be a bonus members "package" sent out at the end of this month to the first 500 people to register, which will include a whole host of valuable and completely free offers

Kind regards,
Keith
