Doncaster Rovers sacked coach .....

... Dave Penney, after 7 years in charge, a period during which, he took them into the Football League and to their highest league placing for decades.

However, that was not enough for the very ambitious Chairman, John Ryan, having invested very heavily in the, argubly, best quality squad in the division and building a brand new stadium, which is almost finished, he craves Championship football.

Five points from as many games, was simply not good enough, despite dominating almost every match. In the 0-0 home draw with front runners, Tranmere, Donny enjoyed 64 % possession and similar superiority in defeat at Carlisle.

Maybe it was time for Penney to go, certainly not many fans are mourning his departure, claiming poor team selection and tactics. Lots of big names being put forward for the job, Kevin Keegan, a friend of the Chairman, is one, that's a good way to end a friendship.

Caretaker boss, Micky Walker, is in charge today for the trip to Port Vale, who are among the early leaders, 7 points seperate the two, but in terms of quality, Rovers squad is way ahead. The match is covered live on Sky and the visitors have reserved their best efforts in recent years, for the television. Including a 3-0 demolition of Aston Villa and a penalty shootout loss to Arsenal, in last season's League Cup run.

Penney had a lot of running disputes with certain players, think the team will play a far more relaxed, less rigid, style today and show what they are capable of, I make them a strong selection receiving a half ball start.

4 points Doncaster Rovers +1/2 ball 1.87 asian line.

Good Luck.
