AFTERNOON ACTION ..............

WEST HAM UNITED - WIGAN ATHLETIC

I think that Steve Bruce has done a great job at Wigan, as you might expect he has got a very sound defence and if Emile Heskey can stay fit, he will have chances created for him by a strong midfield, he will be joined upfront by Amir Zaki, who is an unknown quantity at this level, but has already been scoring, in a decent preseason, when the goals have been flowing. The Hammers continue to have injury problems, Dyer, Bellamy and Gabbidon remain on the sick list, along with several others and Anton Ferdinand is doubtful. The vibes are not good and Curbishley is favourite in the "first manager to be sacked" markets. They have too much quality to be in trouble of course (probably) ,but I do not want to be backing then at shortish prices, until I have seen a little form.

5.5 points Wigan +1/2 ball 1.90 asian line.

CHAMPIONSHIP
NORWICH - BLACKPOOL

The visitors were pretty poor at Macclesfield in midweek and will be without three players today. Norwich were not much better in their Carling Cup loss to MK Dons, but are at least creating plenty of chances. They have had 30 attempts on goal and enjoyed the lions share of possession in their two starts to date and are due, a little more good fortune in front of goal. Glenn Roeder has used his contacts to significantly strengthen the home squad, with a number of loanees from big clubs and this is the type of fixture they should be winning, if it is not going to be another long season of struggle. Blackpool did well to survive last season and if anything, look weaker this time round, having sold two of their best players and lacking the funds to replace them.

5.5 points Norwich -1/2 ball 2.0 asian line.

DIVISION 2
LINCOLN CITY- DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE

You are aware that I was keen on City in my preview of Division 2, they opened with a loss in the league, but took Championship side Derby to extra time in midweek and if that has not taken too much out of them, they should be capable of kick starting their season today. D&R knocked six past inept Chester last week and performed bravely at home to reading in the cup, only losing to a late winner, but they are a small club, with limited resources and have to look outside the league for any signings. These players are hungry of course, but lack the quality that Peter Jackson has at his disposal, Frank Sinclair should make his debut today and oversee a City win.

5.5 points Lincoln -1/2 ball 2.07 asian line.

Good Luck.
