ITALY SERIE B ANCONA - PARMA
Massive problems for Ancona, they have huge financial problems and until recently at least, the players have not been paid for several months. They sold their best player and top scorer Maurizio Nassi and will be without three key suspended players tonight, including two who were sent off in the dire 2-0 loss at "local" rivals Ascoli last wekend, when Ancona were booed by their large travelling support and did not create a attempt on target in 90 minutes, worthy of the name. They have been quite strong at home this season, with a 7-2-3 record, but have ridden their luck at times, in the last 8 they have conceded in 7 and eleven goals in total.
Parma have a quality squad still and have lost just once in 19 starts, they were expected to lose striker Lucarelli in the transfer window, he stayed, but will take no part tonight and has been surplus to requirement lately, which gives an indication of the potential at the club. They have been charged with being too negative this season, but now that they are firmly positioned in the playoff zone, we can surely expect them to press more for all three points on the road and I am pleased that they have named four strikers in the squad tonight. That must surely fancy their chances against a team at a very low ebb and I feel that they will win, in what could be a fairly entertaining encounter.
As I say, a top six place already looks assured and there is little point in not trying to close the four point + gap on Bari and Livorno in the automatic promotion places and playing for a draw facing a team with such problems, is not going to help in that respect.
