BAGHDATIS- AGASSI

If this is to be Andre's swansong, it is fitting that it will come against another showman and crowd favourite, Marcos Baghdatis.

The Cypriot has endeared himself to the viewing public, by playing with a smile on his face and two towering performances in Grand Slam events. Reaching the final in Australia and the semis at Wimbledon, where his mum became a big tv star.

Read somewhere that his record in this tournament is not the best, that is rubbish, he loves the courts and stadiums here and reached TWO US Open Junior finals, in 2002 and 2003.

AA is one of the all time greats, it is a great pity that his final few months on tour have been marred by niggling injuries, his last tournament saw him lose in straight sets, to 246 ranked, Andrea Stoppini, in the opening round, that would have been a sad goodbye.

Andre will have been delighted with his first round win over Pavel, a night match in New York and 20,000 locals, staying until 1am to cheer you on, is a nice memory to take to retirement. Not sure yet if he will be giving another late spot, but have a feeling this is the type of player he will not mind losing to, similar to the Nadal situation at Wimbledon, it's time to go.

Baghdatis to progress and New York to say goodbye to a favourite son.

5 points Baghdatis to beat Agassi 1.60 general.

Good Luck.
