Rising star to shine today ...........

Rebecca Lyne has been named the rising star of British female athletics and that claim will be put to the test in the 800 metres final tonight.

She clocked the 3rd fastest time ever by a Brit earlier this year, has looked very good in the early rounds and seems to be peaking at exactly the right time.

The former European Under-23 Champion eased through to the final with a mature and self assured performance, in a very fast run semi-final heat. The Sheffield Hallamshire athlete finished in a comfortable second place behind the powerful Russian Svetlana Klyuka, with a time of 1:59.11. Lyne was perfectly placed in fourth position coming off the final bend as she produced her trademark fast finish.

Afterwards a confident Lyne said: "I was a bit boxed in over the final lap, but knew not to panic and I'm surprised how fast it was and I felt really good from 300m to go." She looked to have a little more in hand and has a real chance of a medal.

Favourite Olga Kotlyarova is a converted 400m runner and tends to look better in a slowly run race. However, she and her two Russian team mates will be difficult to beat, but to claim a medal, "Beccy" only needs to pass one. Think the bookmakers have underestimated her chances, look out for a price on her to make the podium, Ladbrokes quote 3.0 and I like that a lot, you may find bigger elsewhere, a little later in the day.

The action starts at 20.05 cet. I will be back shortly, it looks like 3 football bets today.

3 points Rebecca Lyne to win a medal 3.0 ladbrokes.

Good Luck.
