Weymouth returned to the Conference ....

.... after a 17 year absence on Saturday and made up for lost time, scoring after 10 seconds and leaving opponents, Tamworth, shell shocked. Coasting into a 3-0 lead, they conceded a late consolation goal and ran out easy winners.

However, they might not find things quite so simple today, when Aldershot are their visitors. Tamworth only narrowly missed relegation last season, only winning 2 of their last 21 league games and have conceded 3 or more goals in four straight matches this season. They look set for another massive struggle to preserve their Conference status.

Aldershot are a fairly big club at this level, a crowd of over 3,500 saw them come from 2-0 down to defeat Gravesend 3-2. This followed on from the best pre season in their history, where they went 6-3-0, five of the matches were against league sides, pick of the results was probably a 3-2 win over Bristol City.

The Shots made 8 pre season signings, virtually all were from league teams, with a mixture of youth and vast experience. They took seasoned pro Marcus Gayle and club captain Ricky Newman both from Brentford, having played large roles in the Bees failed promotion push to the Championship last season, they should be able to do a good job in the Conference.

Several league sides were keen to sign Newman, who lacks nothing in commitment, it shows the desire of Aldershot to really push for promotion this year, having narrowly missed out in 2 of the last 3 seasons.

Weymouth are without 6 players, none of whom played on Saturday, but two are new signings and 4 were regulars last season, 3 were virtually ever present. So it would be wrong to think they are not weakened by their absence.

I will take Aldershot to take something from this game and like the +1/4 ball quote on the asian handicap.

4 points Aldershot +1/4 1.87 asian line.

Good Luck.
