Paddy Power have prices on "which group will have the highest placed finisher ?" at the WSOP Main Event. They have 4 groups, each of 12 runners, one player must finish in the money or all bets will be void.
I think that they have made a big error. Group A is priced @ 3.0 and contains IVEY, HELLMUTH, NEGREANU, SEIDEL, NGUYEN, FERGUSON, FISCHMAN, JUANDA, HARRINGTON, LEDERER, HANSEN and BLACK. Now, wouldn't you take those 12 against any other dozen in the world ?
So it's a crapshoot, an 8,000 runner event that anyone can win, Moneymaker, Raymer and Hachem, who had ever heard of them before. That is true, but we do not need the winner, just the best from 48 runners and here we have, arguably, the best 12.
Since the event really took off in 2003, Group A would have provided the winner in this bet all 3 years and also the runner up in 03 and 05. A couple of these groups include players hopelessly out of form, players who will be lucky to survive one day, let alone a week . This is a first rate bet, not sure how much PP will lay on a bet like this, guess not much, but it should be taken. My idea of the true price is sub 2.0.
