Wigan take the big guns to Oakwell tonight .....

.... to face Championship newcomers, Barnsley, whos lack of activity in the transfer market is worrying fans and players alike.

Star goalkeeper Nick Colgan, has told the media how he thinks the squad desperately need two or three extra faces, if they are going to avoid relegation.

Colgan, who saved the vital penalty against Swansea in the play off final, has told the Yorkshire Post that he is unsure the club will be able to compete in the Championship, with the players they have.

"We are down in numbers and, in my opinion, down a little bit on experience. Don't get me wrong, we have some excellent young players who will go on to play at a higher level but, as a squad, I don't feel we have enough experience.

"Hopefully, the manager will be given a few more funds to strengthen. The chairman doesn't want to stretch the club financially, which I understand. but you don't need to bring in big names on big salaries. You need to bring in the right people on the right salaries which would enable the team as a whole to stay in the League, put bums on seats, and have a good season.

"There's a wonderful, wonderful team spirit here - we showed that in many games last season - but team spirit alone can only get you so far. Not many of our young players have had experience in the Championship yet and I don't think they realise what a tough season it is going to be.
"Nobody aims for a relegation battle but you have to be realistic and with the funds that have been made available it's going to be tough.
Colgan is a first class professional and would not have spoken out, unless he felt the situation was serious , just read that, since this interview, top striker Daniel Nardinello is injured and out for, at least six weeks.
Sounds like a long season for the team from Yorkshire.
Wigan are taking the first team and with top strikers like Camara and Heskey, they should have too much firepower for, what could be, a glorified Division 1 side, no offence guys.
At odds against they are a strong selection.
4 points Wigan -1/2 2.02 asian line.
Good Luck.
